The crews of the WMD Army Aviation worked out a "helicopter carousel" and provided cover for the units of the ground forces during the JSE Zapad-2021

The crews of Mi-35 and Mi-24 attack combat helicopters of the Army Aviation of the Western Military District provided aviation support and cover for the practical actions of ground forces units within the framework of the joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Zapad-2021.

During the performance of combat training flight tasks, the pilots of the Army Aviation used the combat experience gained in the Syrian Arab Republic as widely as possible.

In particular, for the purpose of fire support of the advancing units, the crews of the WMD Army Aviation helicopters practiced air strikes on manpower, armored vehicles and objects of a conditional enemy using the helicopter carousel method with the use of anti-tank missiles "Sturm-V" or "Ataka-M", unguided air-to-surface class S-8 air missiles and standard airborne aviation weapons.

The crews of combat helicopters, acting as part of units, lined up in a "circle" battle formation, inflicted continuous fire damage on communications, command posts and communication routes of areas occupied by the"enemy". The pilots also worked out ways to avoid the enemy's air defense at extremely low altitudes, taking into account the terrain features.

The combat use of aviation weapons of destruction was practiced by the army aviation crews as part of units in horizontal flight, as well as singly and in pairs with various types of maneuver, both during the day and at night.

The flights were carried out at low and extremely low altitudes, including using natural natural shelters, not allowing the conditional enemy to detect itself and strike the helicopters first.

The joint strategic exercise (JSE) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus takes place every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two states.

The Zapad-2021 exercise is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of the troops (forces) will take place in the period from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships take part in the JSE Zapad-2021 on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

The maximum number of personnel involved in the exercise of military units subject to the Vienna Document of 2011 in the territory of the Russian Federation will not exceed 6,400 military personnel.

The return of the military authorities and troops to the points of permanent deployment after participating in the exercise is planned until mid-October of this year.
