The Aleppo hospital has prepared a department in case of those infected with the coronavirus
A special department for those infected with the coronavirus has been prepared at the University hospital in Aleppo, Syria.
"We have already prepared 50 beds for patients with coronavirus. We have also prepared 18 devices for artificial lung ventilation (ALV). So far, there are no cases in Aleppo, but we must be prepared for the worst case scenario," doctor Munaf Sharbaji told reporters.
At the entrance to the department, the patient's temperature is measured, then the doctor receives him. "This is a routine check, that's the way we check patients with complaints of coughing and high temperature. If there is a suspicion of a coronavirus – we isolate the person for quarantine, " said Imad Idris, a doctor in the special department.
Tests of patients with suspected COVID-19 are sent to Damascus for confirmation. Patients for this period are assigned to the quarantine department, where doctors work with them in protective suits. While there are only a few people in this department, they are waiting for the results of tests. Similar departments are being created in other medical institutions in Syria, some of them are completely re-purposed to accommodate those infected with the coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health of the Syrian Arab Republic, the total number of infected people in the country is 16, and two deaths were recorded in early April. The country has taken strict measures to fight the spread of infection, including a curfew from 18:00 to 6:00 (on weekends-from 12: 00 to 6: 00).
Transport links between the provinces have been suspended, classes in educational institutions have been canceled, most state institutions have been suspended, and markets and shops (except grocery stores) have been closed. There is also a ban on friday sermons and general prayers in mosques. Syria suspended air traffic and closed its land borders.
