by Joint Coordination Headquarters of the Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Republic
“On the problems of the repatriation of the Syrian refugees and IDPs in the COVID-19 environment”
March 18, 2021
Ten years ago, on March 15, 2011. - The anti-government activities in the Syrian Arab Republic began at the instigation of Western countries, which eventually led to terrorism, a protracted war and massive loss of life and infrastructure destruction, as well as a major migration crisis.
The Russian-Syrian Joint Coordination Committees continue to actively promote the process of voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation of Syrians and to the rebuilding of the country. The Syrian Government is doing its utmost to restore the economy of the Republic and create favorable living conditions for its citizens.
Despite all obstacles, to date 2,229,270 Syrians have returned to their places of chosen residence. The most active refugees are returning through the Syrian-Lebanese border. In other destinations, a significant slowdown has been noted, in part due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the same time, challenges of restoring the country's stability, security and economy posed by the U.S. and its allies remain the main obstacles to the repatriation of Syrian citizens. These include the illegal American occupation of the Syrian territories with the support of armed groups, economic sanctions imposed on June 17, 2020 by the so-called "Caesar's law" in violation of the international law.
Americans and their satellites, in their practice of the past decade, have succeeded in the falsification of information in attempts to manipulate public consciousness. The West's destructive policy against the Syrian state that fights against international terrorism is substantiated by the alleged crimes, build upon illogical and untrue justifications.
By such actions, the Americans are trying to devalue all the suffering and sacrifices of the Syrian people, who, under the guidance of their leader, has been heroically fighting against ISIS and other terrorist organizations for 10 years, achieving their defeat with the support of the Russian Federation Armed Forces.
Moreover, according to the United Nations, there has been an increase in violence, accompanied by torture and exemplary executions of internally displaced persons on the U.S.-controlled territory of Trans-Euphrates in the Al-Hawl refugee camp. This attests to Washington's de facto inability to provide security in the areas under its control.
We call upon the world community to stop trusting unsubstantiated allegations against the Syrian Arab Republic, its people and leadership that are presented and actively promoted by the United States.
We require the American party to stop its destabilizing impact on the social and economic situation in the Syrian Arab Republic and immediately bring all illegally occupied Syrian territories back under control of the republic's government, as well as to put an end to the illegitimate sanctions.
