Briefing by Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (May 8, 2019)
Peaceful settlement of the conflict and rendering of comprehensive assistance are the main vectors of work in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Representatives of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation carried out two humanitarian actions in the settlement of Saqba, Damascus province, and Maqar al-Albiyah, Aleppo province. People received 1,000 food sets.
In total, since the Russian Centre for Reconciliation started settlement process, it carried out 2112 humanitarian actions. The total weight of humanitarian cargo delivered amounts to 3,364.36 tons.
As part of the implementation of the decree of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Syrian authorities continue to work on amnesty for those who evade from military service, including those among refugees and former members of illegal armed groups. As for May 7, 2019, in total 57,897 were granted amnesty.
Situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone is worsening. Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, there are still cases of ceasefire regime violation by illegal armed formations.
During the day, the militants attacked the settlements of Qalaat Marza, Kinsibba (twice), Shillif, Djub al-Zarur, Qermal, al-Djdaid in the Latakia province , al-Qraim, al-Rasif, Hamamiyat, Abu Dali in Hama province.
On May 8, at 3:15 pm, the militants of the Katiba Ard el-Bab and Katiba Jebel Butma terrorist groups operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone decided to attack the Russian Hmeymim Air Base with the use of multiple launch rocket systems. 12 missiles have been fired.
Through effectively organized defence system of the Russian Hmeymim Air Base all missiles were downed by duty of air defence. No casualties or material damage was caused.
The means of artillery reconnaissance quickly revealed two militants firing positions from which the shelling was conducted. All points of missile launch were suppressed by Russian Aerospace Forces and artillery of Syrian government troops.
