Briefing by Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (February 8, 2019)
Peaceful settlement of the conflict and rendering of comprehensive assistance are the main vectors of work in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Representatives of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation carried out a humanitarian action in the settlement of Douma, al-Quneitra province. People received 200 sets of blankets and towels, 100 jeans and 100 coats.
In total, since the Russian Centre for Reconciliation started settlement process, it carried out 2,058 humanitarian actions. The total weight of humanitarian cargo delivered amounts to 3,251.5 tons.
On February 8, 2019, the humanitarian mission of the Republic of Armenia started its work in Aleppo. The mission, consisting of 83 people charged with the tasks of mine clearance outside of combat zones, mine awareness, and to provide medical care to citizens of Aleppo. Issues of delivery of Armenian specialists to Syria, as well as their logistics support are carried out with the support of the Russian side.
Refugees are making their way back home. Ten check points including one at the Damascus International Airport and the Baniyas maritime one are operating with support of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides. As for February 7, 2019, in total 221,756 Syrians returned.
As part of the implementation of the decree of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Syrian authorities continue to work on amnesty for those who evade from military service, including those among refugees and former members of illegal armed groups. As for February 7, 2019, in total 47,308 were granted amnesty.
Social infrastructure is being recovered to create favourable conditions for returnees. As for February 7, 2019, 31,182 houses, 809 educational facilities and 136 medical centres has been recovered. Besides, 997 km of roads have been repaired.
Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, there are still cases of ceasefire regime violation by illegal armed formations in the Idlib de-escalation zone.
Over the past day, from the Idilb de-escalation zone terrorists have attacked Shir al-Sahab, Kinsibba, Qbana and Malka Bait Djunaid in Latakia province, Khar in Aleppo province as well as northern districts in Aleppo city.
The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides urges leaders of illegal armed formations operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone to cease hostilities and move towards peaceful settlement of the situation in areas they occupy.
In Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces recorded protests against the blocking by US-controlled Syrian democratic forces of delivery of humanitarian aid.
In the course of meetings in the settlements of Abu Hammad, Havidjet Shian, Sahalbiyah, Safsafa and local residents demanded the withdrawal US-controlled troops from the Syrian territory.
