Russian Defence Minister urges ICRC to intensify humanitarian aid for Syria
The Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu in his letter to Peter Maurer, the head of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), called for intensifying of humanitarian aid for the Syrian Arab Republic, active participation in restoring destroyed dwellings, schools, hospitals, infrastructure objects, and sparing no effort to help the Syrian people.
The official letter was forwarded by the Chief of Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation of the Russian Defence Ministry Major General Alexander Kshimovsky to Dominik Stillhart, the ICRC's Director of Operations.
The document stated that due to the de-escaltion zones in Syria, the environment in the country had significantly improved. National reconciliation committees have been set up to enable establishing peaceful life.
The official letter also says that the terrorists had razed to the ground thousands of houses, schools, medical facilities, plants, and vital infrastructure.
According to the Russian Defence Minister, the urgent measures on ensuring humanitarian aid to the Syrian people would speed up the restoring peaceful life in the country, reduce hardships for its citizens, and enable hundreds of thousands Syrian refugees to return home.
